The Billerica High boys tennis team advanced in the state tournament with a narrow 3-2 home victory over West Springfield on Tuesday.
The No. 29 Indians (12-3) captured the Div. 2 preliminary round win with clutch play over No. 36 West Springfield (11-6). Billerica advances to play at No. 4 Duxbury (15-3) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Steele Athletic Complex in Duxbury.
BG 9, Nashua North 0: Singles victories by Jack Kostansek (8-0), Evan Deyak (8-0), Max Moynihan (8-1), Jonny Perrott (8-3), Maxx Lizotte (8-0) and Charlie Dabrowski (8-1) fueled Bishop Guertin’s sweep.
In doubles, the teams of Kostansek/Moynihan (8-1), Deyak/Lizotte (8-0) and A. Coffey/B. Johnston (8-1) completed the sweep.
Lebanon 8, Alvirne 1: The No. 11 Broncos were bounced from the NHIAA Div. 2 tournament with a preliminary round loss. Alvirne finishes at 6-9.

NDA 3, Notre Dame 2: The Academy of Notre Dame edged Notre Dame of Worcester in a tight Div. 3 prelim match in Tyngsboro.
Singles wins from Artis Craven at No. 1 (6-3, 7-5) and Carson Pedreschi at No. 3 (forfeit) fueled the Lancers. The No. 1 doubles team of Kalani Wong-Lovato/Sophia Mauricio won 6-4, 6-2.
The No. 31 Lancers (8-7) advance to play at No. 2 Saint John Paul II (20-1), date and time to be announced.
Greater Lowell Tech hosted the Commonwealth Athletic Conference tournament in Tyngsboro.
In the boys singles final, Trevor Engel of Shawsheen Tech won 8-3. In the boys doubles final, Joe Fennelly and Hunter Holloway of Shawsheen Tech edgedTeddy Buzynski and Josh Powderly of Shawsheen, 9-7.
In the girls singles final, Faith Martin of Shawsheen rolled to an 8-3 win. In mixed doubles, Shawsheen’s team of Ella Haynes/Matt Kilfoyle fell 8-5 in the final.
The CAC Spirit Award went to Nashoba Tech. The league’s regular season champ was Greater Lowell Tech.
GLT 12, Monty Tech 8: Greater Lowell Tech edged the Fitchburg school to advance to the State Vocational Tournament final.
The Gryphons (13-4) will host the Essex Tech/Bristol Plymouth winner on Wednesday (4 p.m.) in Tyngsboro.
In the semifinal win, Addison Carbone fueled the win with five goals, while Emma Finch claimed four goals and two assists, and Maddie Golden contributed three goals and two assists.
Julia Dunfey made 11 saves in goal. Picking up an assist each were Ella Carbone, Lauren Pelissari, Emma Bettencourt and Adarra Martin.
ST 11, Nashoba Tech 2: Led by Judith Sloman’s four goals, Shawsheen Tech captured a State Vocational semifinal win.
Fiona Rexford netted three, Meaghan Warford earned two goals, and Cera Salter and Izzy Ferguson both had one goal each. The Rams, cheered on by a contingent of the school’s teachers, will host the championship game Wednesday.

For Nashoba Tech (8-12), which concluded its season, Alana Alden and Delaney Auger each had a goal and assist. Goalie Amber King had 13 saves and finishes her career as the program’s all-time leader in wins and saves.
ST 20, Monty Tech 2: Jacoby Patterson produced a four-goal, four-assist performance to fuel Shawsheen Tech to a State Vocational semifinal victory.
Other offensive standouts for the Rams (18-1) were Bray Carbone (4 goals) and Josh Baker (3 goals, 3 assists). The defense only allowed nine shots on goal. Shawsheen will host the final Wednesday against the Whittier/Southeastern winner.
Billerica 16, Pinkerton 4: Facing one of New Hampshire’s top teams Monday, the Indians romped behind five goals and two assists from Kam Tremblay.
Senior Jacob Clarke was outstanding in making 11 saves for Billerica (17-1), which is expected to draw the top seed in the MIAA Division 2 tournament.
Braden Martin was immense with four goals and three assists and Cam Penti claimed two goals. Ryan Zukowski netted his first varsity goal, while adding a goal each were Adam Priest (3 assists), Steven Gentile and Eddie Conley (5 ground balls). Timmy Murphy played airtight defense and had an assist.

CMass. stars: The Central Mass. Lacrosse Coaches Association has selected seven local players for an all-star game which will be held June 12 at 7 p.m. at Grafton High.
Selected to play from Littleton are attackman Matt Clark, midfielder Zach Milner and Brendan defender Laferty. Picked from North Middlesex are attackman Finn McNabb and defender Sam Lacreta.
Selected as a CMass. All-American is O’Brien, while named a CMass. Academy All-American is North Middlesex senior Shawn Amari, who will attend the University of Hartford.
Pairings in boys and girls rugby, as well as boys volleyball, were released Tuesday by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.
One local boys team made the rugby tournament, while five area boys volleyball teams will strive to capture a state championship.
Boys volleyball: In Division 1, making the 39-team field were Chelmsford, Lowell and Lowell Catholic.
In round of 32 clashes, No. 11 Chelmsford (17-3) will host No. 22 Milford (12-9), date and time to be announced, and No. 14 Lowell (18-2) will entertain No. 19 Boston Latin (13-5) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
In a prelim match, No. 39 Lowell Catholic (15-5) will try to upset No. 26 Barnstable (15-5) on the road, date and time be announced.
In Division, in the 41-team field are Greater Lowell Tech and Billerica.
In a round of 32 battle, No. 14 Greater Lowell (17-3) will host No. 19 Somerville (12-8), date and time to be announced. In a prelim, No. 36 Billerica (11-9) will journey to No. 29 Greater Lawrence (15-5) on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
Boys rugby: The lone local school in the seven-team Division 2 field is Chelmsford.
The No. 3 Lions (6-0) will host No. 6 Hingham (4-2) in a round of 8 game, date and time to be announced. Hanover (7-0) is the top seed.
None of the four schools in the Division 1 girls rugby tournament are local.
Blackstone 5, ST 1: Shawsheen Tech (20-0), which went undefeated during the regular season, suffered its first loss of the spring and was bounced from the State Vocational tournament.
Will Trach threw well in the loss, allowing just one earned run in five innings.
Lukas Poirier collected a hit and scored a run, Nata Galanis ripped an RBI double in the third inning, and Trach and Adam Caruso chipped in hits.
GLT 10, Blackstone-Millville 3: The Gryphons picked up a non-league win Monday on the final day to play prior to the state tournament.
Kyle Jarek earned the win, striking out eight and allowing two hits in five innings. Brendan Arseneault led the offense with three hits, including a triple, and driving in a run. AJ Baia doubled, had two hits and drove in two runs.
Adding a hit each for GLT (11-9) were Gryphon Morales, Nolan Stys, Jordan Chinappi, Logan Peterson (double, RBI) and Fradiel Matos.
BG 2, Dover 1: Ben Geiger pitched Bishop Guertin to the NHIAA win, allowing one earned run on four hits and striking out six in the complete-game gem Monday.
BG was led offensively by Gavin Santos (2-for-3, stolen base), Liam Ireland (2-for-4, run, 2 steals) and Jordy Delude (2-for-4, game-winning walk-off RBI in the bottom on the seventh).
Lowell 12, North Middlesex 9: Abby Meade got the win in the circle, while Lillie Brown got the save as the Red Raiders nipped the Patriots in non-league action Monday.
For North Middlesex, the 14-hit attack was paced by Bianca Lake, who doubled and tripled as part of a 4-for-5 day. Also swinging hot bats were Ava Moore (3-for-3, 2 RBI), Delaney Prince (2-for-5), Nataly Vo Rebello (2-for-3) and Olivia Peterson (2-for-3).
